A creative local youngster in Mitcham is amongst the first ever archi-tots in the UK, following a London-wide search for the most creative school-aged designer.

Our Greater London team launched a hunt for talented primary school aged ‘archi-tots’ to design their very own house of the future.

The winner, Shree from Hackbridge Primary School, wowed with her house design which included a slide, waterproof grass and a garage to store aeroplanes, which hugely impressed the judging panel at our Millfields site in Mitcham.

As our newest ‘archi-tot’, Shree is in with a chance of having elements of her design incorporated into our future London home. Additionally, her school, Hackbridge Primary, will receive artwork vouchers to encourage Shree and classmates to continue working on their creative ability and innovative designs.

Matthew Oates, Operations Director at our Greater London division said: “It was hugely enjoyable to judge all the aspiring architects’ submissions and we were very impressed with all the entries we received. It’s fantastic to see that there are so many young people in London with a creative flair and eye for design. We hope the competition has sparked an interest in a career in construction amongst some of the schoolchildren.

“Shree’s design particularly stood out as it incorporated elements of high-quality design, with a sleek spiral staircase and chandelier, as well as more out-of-box innovative features such as the convertible roof and the garage to store aeroplanes.

Lorraine Daniels, Design Technology Lead Teacher at Hackbridge Primary School, comments: “It was a pleasure to partake in Redrow’s competition and to see how it encouraged the pupils to think more about the construction industry and the elements of art and design that it incorporates.”

Shree, Redrow London’s winning Archi-tot, comments: “I feel proud of myself. I hadn’t thought about becoming an architect before the competition, but I think I'd like to be one now!”

We are currently building three-bedroom townhouses at its Millfields site in Mitcham. So far the homes have proved very popular with families looking for space to grow, with over 80% of all interest coming from families within close proximity. With plenty of excellent schools and nurseries just a short walk away, the homes are ideal for families and future parents who are looking for a real sense of community.

Remaining homes start from £580,000 and are available with Help to Buy. For further information please visit www.redrow.co.uk/millfields or call 01582 787 652.
