Buying your first home is one of life’s milestones, but for Joe and Jackie Green it was a double celebration as their first child was born the day they completed the purchase.
The couple met at university and lived in rented accommodation for years but decided they wanted a home of their own where they could raise a family.
The pair – Joe, 34, who works in a bank, and GP Jackie, 31 – recently moved into a four-bedroom Redrow home at The Willows in East Leake with son William Joseph.
“We were in the hospital and within a few minutes of having the baby when Joe got a message to say we had completed,” Jackie recalls. “He didn’t know whether to phone the solicitor or tell me to push!”
With their new son safely delivered the couple were then free to focus on their impending move.
Joe takes up the story: “The house we were renting was big enough but it wasn’t ours – we wanted to own our own home and move out of the city but still be near Leicester.
“We were in mixed minds about buying a new home or an older property. We had thought we could only get a home with character if we bought an older property, but couldn’t find anything we wanted and so started looking at new builds.
“We’d been hoping to get a house worth £300,000 for £200,000 but soon realised that didn’t really exist and thought we’d set our expectations too high, but Help to Buy opened some doors for us.”
Location and quality also played a part in their decision – they wanted to live in a village in the East Midlands and looked at various developments before choosing Redrow.
“We felt that the quality offered by Redrow was higher than the others,” Joe said. “Once we saw the four-bedroom Oxford we struggled to find anything else we liked as much.”
Jackie added: “We love the functionality of the space. The open plan kitchen-diner and separate utility fits our lifestyle. All of the bedrooms are doubles and there’s plenty of storage space for things like the pram.”
Although they initially ruled out a new build, the couple now appreciate the advantages of buying new rather than an older property.
“Buying a brand new home meant we could choose the finish ourselves and get exactly what we wanted including designing how the kitchen looks,” Jackie said. “It was all very convenient as it meant we could just move straight in and there was nothing for us to do. It’s good to know that all of the appliances are brand new. The Redrow team have been fantastic and are a really friendly bunch. We would definitely recommend Redrow as our move was stress free.”
With new Redrow homes boasting a host of family-friendly features, it’s no surprise that Joe and Jackie aren’t the only new parents at The Willows. The development is seeing a baby boom with several other customers expecting or having recently had babies.
The development is so popular that there are now only a few three and four-bedroom properties still available.
