WHEELING out sponsorship for the Stafford Sportive wasn’t enough for Redrow – the housebuilder also entered a team of cyclists in the event.
The Redrow riders were among almost 300 cyclists who took part in the event, organised by RideStaffs with the Lewis Partnership.
Strategic planning director Richard Edwards took part in the event with colleagues from Redrow Homes (Midlands), in Tamworth, plus Tom Finnegan, managing director of Redrow’s Derby-based East Midlands division.
“The event started and finished at the Swan Hotel in the centre of Stafford and sent the riders on a 100km course through Staffordshire and Shropshire,” Richard explained.
“The hilly terrain and blustery conditions made the ride challenging but nonetheless enjoyable, with all of the Redrow team completing the event in just over three and a half hours.”
Event organiser Paul Rowlands, from RideStaffs, said: “The event was a big success for us and for the town, it was great to see Stafford so busy on a Sunday. We’ve only had good feedback from the riders on the route, the feed stops and overall event. It’s always nice when local people who’ve been cycling for years tell you that you’ve shown them roads they’d never ridden on before.”
Former world and multiple European track cycling champion Andy Tennant, who now rides for Team Wiggins, attended as an ambassador for PedalSure and spoke to riders about his past achievements and future ambitions.
Redrow mascots Buster and Buddy and staff were on hand to cheer the cyclists along.
“Redrow were superstars on the day and in the run up to the event too,” Paul added. “Helping us to bring in a big screen to show the Tour of Britain in the finish area meant the day had a really nice flow to it. And the kids and families in town loved meeting the mascots.”
