As Redrow expands its Midlands’ business, the company has recruited a third area sales manager whose experience certainly means he’s at home in the industry.
New recruit Mark Turley brings with him more than 20 years of working in the property sector.
Based at Redrow’s divisional headquarters in Tamworth he’s joined a team that already includes sales director Pauline Turnbull, area sales managers Catherine Swain and Deborah Purchase, and 35 on-site sales consultants.
Redrow’s Midlands’ business currently had 17 live sales outlets across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, the West Midlands, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. With eight new ventures soon to start and others planned, Mark’s experience and enthusiasm will help the company continue to grow.
Mark began his career in commercial sales and valuations for an estate agency. He went on to look after part exchange and market research for a new homes developer before being promoted to sales manager. More recently he’s worked for an estate agent selling new homes in Birmingham.
“When the Redrow vacancy came up it was an opportunity to go back to what I knew best and what I love. Redrow is a fantastic company to work for. Everyone is really friendly and we all pull together – although it’s a FTSE 250 company there’s a real family feel,” Mark said.
“I’m looking forward to helping launch new developments, such as those planned in Evesham and Pershore among others. I enjoy seeing a scheme grow from being a patch of land and progressing to become not just a housing development but a whole new community.”
As lenders, surveyors and other industry experts point to signs of a housing market recovery, Mark recognises the challenges of increased consumer confidence and greater demand.
“Recent experience has been through harder markets. While it’s nice to have a more confident and buoyant market, bringing with it increases in footfall and activity across all sites, this does create its own set of challenges. Developments are busier and so to maintain the personal contact with customers we’re doubling up on sales staff at peak periods,” Mark adds.
“It’s essential that we continue to provide a one to one service, deliver consistently high levels of customer care and make each person feel special, even though we’re dealing with higher numbers.
“It’s great to see the excitement on people’s faces when you give them the keys to their new home. It’s a very rewarding experience.”
Mark, 49, lives in Kidderminster with wife Sarah and son Oliver, 14. Currently he leads and motivates a team of 10 sales consultants at developments in Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
“Redrow’s Heritage Collection is outstanding and streets ahead of anything other developers are building.” Mark said.
“When I speak to customers they say they love the homes because of the Arts & Crafts influenced architecture with traditional elevations and attention to detail. Internally the specification is great and compares very favourably to our competitors.”
The Tamworth-based operation that Mark has joined directly employs more than 100 people as well as providing work for many more sub-contractors and those in the supply chain. The company is also investing in providing the housing industry’s future workforce through apprenticeships and graduate training programmes.
