Millions of pounds will be invested in community facilities in Leicester, developer Redrow has pledged.
Already building at Thorpe Meadow in Countesthorpe and The Orchards in Glenfield, the award-winning housebuilder has plans for two more developments in the Leicestershire area.
Redrow has just received planning permission to build 127 homes on a 12 acre parcel land, part of the former Towers Hospital site in Gipsy Lane, Leicester. The company has also submitted a reserved matters application relating to plans for 416 homes in Hamilton.
Matthew Pratt, managing director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), commented: “Between our four sites in the Leicestershire area we will be investing well over £100 million in the course of the next five years. It’s a major commitment that will be of great benefit for the county as not only will it provide jobs and homes, but will also see us making a significant contribution to the community. For example, based on the submitted schemes between the Towers Hospital site and the planned site at Hamilton we’re pledging £3.56 million towards education.”
Known as Nightingale Gardens, the Towers Hospital development will comprise 102 properties for private sale and 25 affordable homes. The latter includes three properties designed specifically for disabled people and built to a specification agreed with Leicester Council.
Redrow will provide funds for the maintenance of a local play area and make a contribution to open space. The company will install speed cushions in Gipsy Lane and pay £60,000 towards traffic calming measures, plus £10,000 for traffic management orders. Personalised travel plans will be made at a cost of £55 per house and the developer will make a £45,765 contribution towards public transport.
“At Redrow we don’t just build new homes but want to be part of the communities in which we operate and therefore we’re committed to supporting the local infrastructure,” Matthew added.
Nightingale Gardens will offer a choice of three, four and five-bedroom homes for private sale. Inspired by the architecture of the Arts & Crafts era, they will look traditional from the outside; while inside they will be bright and modern with a high specification as standard.
