Students from Wolverhampton University’s fundraising efforts stepped up a gear with help from Redrow.
Second year business management students Alex Stanley, Martin Smith, Matthew Slater and Adam Winn have to raise money for charity as part of their degree course.
They opted to support Compton Hospice and had set a target of £1,000. They’ve now surpassed their target thanks to a £500 donation from Redrow Homes.
Alex explains: “We chose Compton Hospice as someone close to one of the group members was treated there. To raise the money we’ve been selling unwanted items on our eBay store and are planning to each run 10k in the gym on Tuesday (March 26). Martin is even having his head shaved after nine years of growing his hair! We wanted to raise as much money as possible and have been using social media including Facebook and Twitter to raise awareness of our efforts. We tweeted Redrow asking for help and were ecstatic when they offered £500, which tipped us over our target.”
Redrow is building new homes at Compton Park in Wolverhampton, on a site previously occupied by the university. The developer was happy to support the students and help a good local cause.
Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), commented: “At Redrow we take pride not only in the homes we build but also in playing an active part in the communities in which we operate. It’s fantastic to see young people using their initiative to help such a worthwhile local cause. We were delighted to be able to help the students not only reach but beat their target.”
