Father and son Vince and Ryan Price are hoping to hook people in to support their fundraising so that they can avoid a soaking.
The pair, who both work for Redrow, are taking part in a 24-hour fishing match at Tuckers Holt Fishery in Ibstock, Leicestershire, to raise money for Cancer Research.
It’s a cause close to their hearts as Vince’s mum, Ryan’s grandmother, died from bowel cancer four years ago.
Vince, who lives in Coalville and is the site manager at Redrow’s Mill Hill development in Bingham, says: “I used to take my mum to the hospital for chemotherapy and couldn’t believe how many other people were there. It was a real eye opener. I also know a lot of people who are battling cancer themselves or who know someone who is affected by it. I hope that one day they will find a cure for cancer, which is why I’m taking part in the fishing challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.”
Vince, Ryan and other anglers will be fishing from 5pm on Saturday, August 24 to 5pm the next day. That’s twice as long as Vince would normally fish.
“Everything that’s caught over the 24 hours will be weighed with a prize going to the person whose overall catch weighs the most,” Vince explains.
“I want to win. I also want to raise the most sponsorship as the person with the least is getting thrown in the lake. I’m not going in a smelly lake!”
Sitting alongside his son for the 24-hour fishing marathon won’t be a problem for Vince, the pair are used to working side by side. Ryan has completed an apprenticeship as a joiner and is now a trainee assistant site manager, working for Redrow alongside his dad at Mill Hill.
Friends and colleagues have been keen to support the pair. Their fundraising is off to a good start, thanks in part to a donation of £100 from their employers Redrow.
Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), commented: “We’re proud of Vince and Ryan’s fundraising efforts and were happy to be able to support them and Cancer Research UK. It’s great to see father and son not only working together but also sharing a hobby and raising money for such a good cause that has the potential to help so many people.”
