New home in Bingham ticks all the boxes for the Evans family
A spacious new home full of family friendly features, close to schools and with good commuter links to London was crucial for Andrew and Lisa Evans.
They found that a brand new home at Redrow’s Mill Hill venture, in Mallow Way, Bingham, ticked all the boxes – and more.
The five-bedroom Rickford style property they chose includes a home office where Andrew can work, space for daughters Summer, seven, and Sophie, four, to play, plus ease of maintenance and low running costs.
It’s also close to relatives in Nottinghamshire and trains from nearby Grantham can whisk Andrew into the capital in just over an hour.
The Evans family lived in Swindon before Andrew’s work took them to the Middle East for a year. When the family returned to England they initially rented a three-bedroom property in Beeston while they looked for a home of their own.
Andrew explains: “We wanted to move to Bingham because it’s a nice place to live with good schools and decent commuter links. I need to go to London for work and can get the train from Grantham to the capital, which takes just over an hour.
“We looked at new and older properties but, taking everything into consideration, including council tax and running costs, buying new was the most cost effective option for our budget. It also gave us a bigger house in terms of usability.”
Their new home features an open plan kitchen and family room, plus separate lounge and a dedicated dining room, as well as a ground floor cloakroom.
On the first floor, the master bedroom benefits from an en-suite and dressing room, two bedrooms share a ‘Jack and Jill’ bathroom and there’s also a study. The remaining two bedrooms and the family bathroom are on the top floor.
“It gives us all the space we need as a family – I work from home so have an office and the children have a playroom. The bedrooms are all a good size and the ‘Jack and Jill’ bathroom is very useful with young children. We will have two teenage daughters at some point but we can adapt our living arrangements as they grow up,” Andrew adds.
“The Rickford was at the top end of our budget but, being brand new, we won’t have to worry about maintenance, whereas if we had bought an older property we wouldn’t know what could need repairing or replacing in the immediate future. It’s ideal for us as we don’t have time for dealing with repairs and renovations. Plus because it’s well insulated it will be economical to run.”
Andrew, 35, works as a loss adjuster, while Lisa, 33, is a service advisor.
Andrew said: “In my job I deal with all sorts of construction issues and recognise that Redrow has a reputation as a quality developer, therefore I was happy that if we were buying a brand new home it was a Redrow home. The Redrow specification is of an incredibly high standard in terms of the appliances that are included and the general finish of the properties.”
He also praised the customer service as “excellent”.
“The bow on the door and the bears for the children when we moved in were really nice touches,” Andrew added.
“The children were excited to move to a new house and have space to play.”
Mill Hill offers a good choice of properties, with current availability including two-bedroom apartments and four-bedroom family homes. Prices start from £109,995.
