They've clocked up almost 50 years’ experience in the housing industry, notched up an impressive sales rate selling more than double their quarterly target, and, with no sign of slowing down Esther Bateman and Pat O’Connor share the secrets to their success.
The pair both work for Redrow selling new homes at Chestnut Walk in Bilston.
In the last quarter they sold 17 homes – that’s 265% of their target. During October and November they racked up a further 10 sales, putting them on course for another bumper quarter.
Esther and Pat attribute their sales success rate to a winning combination of their experience, personal approach, and the availability of equity loans through the Help to Buy initiative.
Esther has worked in the housing industry for almost 30 years; while Pat has 20 years’ experience in the sector.
Many of their customers are people who grew up locally and don’t want to move away when they’re ready to buy a home of their own. Having grown up in the area, it’s something Pat can relate to and she often reminisces with buyers about how the neighbourhood has changed.
“I love my job and adopt a very personal approach and I’m delighted to help buyers move into their new homes,” Pat said.
“Help to Buy is the fifth government assistance scheme I’ve helped buyers access to purchase a new home. The major difference is that unlike previous initiatives it’s not just for first time buyers but can be used by other purchasers such as families and people making a fresh start after a change of circumstances. It’s been a great success at Chestnut Walk where two-thirds of our sales since September have been to customers who have taken out an equity loan to make a new home easier to afford.”
Current availability at Chestnut Walk includes two, three and four-bedroom homes from the sought-after Heritage Collection.
Prices start from £126,500 for a two-bedroom Evesham or £101,200 with Help to Buy.
Customers who buy in this way should only need a 5% deposit of £6.325 and a 75% mortgage of £94,875. The remaining 20% is covered by the equity loan, which is interest free for five years.
Esther adds: “Our prices are already competitive but Help to Buy has made a real difference to what people can afford and has helped buyers step on and move up the property ladder.
“A lot of our customers are buying their first home and for some it can seem daunting. Because of our experience Pat and I are able to guide them through the buying process every step of the way.
“We also put them in touch with professionals such as solicitors and new homes mortgage specialists. It’s all about making it as simple and straight forward as possible for customers.”
Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), commented: “At Redrow we have a reputation for developing new talent but we also recognise the value of experience. We’re delighted with Pat and Esther’s sales record and hope it continues long into the future.”
Showhomes at Chestnut Walk, on Bankfield Road, Bilston, are open daily from 10am to 5.30pm.
