A deposit boost from family helped Sarah and Chris Hayward escape the rental trap to their dream home in Telford.
The valuable help meant the couple and daughter Emma were able to move out of their three-bedroom rented property and into their ideal home – the four-bedroom Cambridge showhome at Redrow’s Trenchwood Gardens development. It even came with all the furniture included.
Sarah and Chris knew they wanted a new-build home and scoured the internet looking for suitable properties.
Chris explains: “Because we’ve got a little girl we wanted to buy a home that would be easy to maintain and family-friendly. A new build home ticked all the right boxes and it comes with 10-year warranty from the NHBC.”
They really liked Redrow’s Heritage Collection and looked at Oakwood Grange in Great Wyrley and Aston Fields in Shifnal before deciding to buy at Trenchwood Gardens in Telford.
Sarah says: “The Heritage Collection has a traditional country feel. The homes aren’t just boxes, they have real character.”
Chris adds: “We fell in love with the Cambridge but thought it was a pipedream that we’d be able to afford it; it’s a bit extreme for a ‘starter home’.
“We had saved around half of the deposit we needed, which was just under £20,000, and raised the remainder with help from our families.
“It’s our first property together so while were keen to buy we were a bit cautious but Polly Jones, the sales consultant, put us at ease. We used the new homes mortgage specialist and the solicitor recommended by Redrow and what initially seemed quite daunting went really smoothly.”
They describe the layout of their new home as family oriented, with a separate living room and then an open plan kitchen combined with a family room and dining room.
Just a couple of months after moving, they’ve already noticed a difference in their household bills.
“We’ve moved from a three-bedroom terrace with poor insulation to a new build home with LED lights and everything’s very modern,” Sarah says.
“Our new home is bigger but our bills are very similar, if not lower, than in our old home.”
Current availability at Trenchwood Gardens includes three and four-bedroom homes, priced from £189,995, with a four-bedroom Cambridge similar to Chris and Sarah’s on the market at £239,995.
