A commitment to quality has earned a Wolverhampton based site manager a top industry award.
Dave Dodd, who oversees construction of new homes at Compton Park, is one of 18 Redrow employees to receive Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ Awards from the NHBC (National House Building Council). Around 15,000 site managers undergo the judging process with just 450 winners selected.
Dave joined Redrow as a trainee site assistant 11 years ago after leaving the Army. He progressed to site assistant and then site manager and has been based at Compton Park for 18 months.
“I’ve had quite a good year – Compton Park has also been commended in the NHBC’s Health and Safety Awards,” Dave, 43 from Cannock, said.
“Having a good team of contractors definitely helps. Because we’re building substantial homes it’s important for everyone to work together.”
Judging for the Pride in the Job awards begins a year before the announcement of the first round of winners. It includes spot checks of the day-to-day running of their site, plus assessment across 38 areas of site management, including their technical knowledge, consistency in the build process, leadership and organisational skills.
Only site managers who demonstrate exceptional standards in every aspect of their work on site and in the homes they build are considered for a Pride in the Job Award.
“It’s about setting high standards and maintaining them,” Dave adds.
“It’s down to the site manager to take pride in the job and that reflects on the contractors. You have to be conscientious and motivate the team around you.”
Compton Park is an exclusive development of some of the largest and most luxurious designs from Redrow’s Heritage Collection. On average there are around 60 people working on site at a time.
Dave said: “Redrow homes stand out from the crowd because of the workmanship that goes into the properties. The detail in the traditional elevations is difficult to achieve and we offer a high specification as standard.”
Dave and the other ‘Quality’ Award winners will now have to wait until the autumn to discover if they’ve made it into the top 130 site managers to secure the coveted ‘Seal of Excellence’.
