A former indoor international cricketer thought she’d been stumped in her search for a home of her own until she was bowled over by Redrow.
Louisa Hayes, who played for England in the Indoor Cricket World Cup in New Zealand last October, stepped up to the wicket and purchased a three-bedroom semi-detached Letchworth at The Willows in East Leake.
“I’d been saving for a deposit for years and decided that as I’m nearly 28 it was about time I moved out of my parents’ house and got on the property ladder,” Louisa, who shares her home with partner Carra Newsham, explains.
“The low interest rates made it seem like a good time to buy and so I started searching for somewhere to buy.
“I hadn’t really been looking for a new build and had nearly bought an older house in Quorn. When I heard that Redrow were building in East Leake I went to see the showhomes in Hamilton, Leicester, and it changed my opinion.”
Louisa was attracted to the traditional charm of Redrow’s Heritage Collection, which marries Arts & Crafts inspired architecture with high specification interiors designed to meet the demands of modern living.
“A lot of new builds look the same, but Redrow homes are different. They have character and almost a cottagey feel,” Louisa adds.
“It was great being able to choose the finish of the kitchen, the bathroom tiles and the fitted wardrobe in the master bedroom. It made a massive difference as it meant everything would go with my chosen colour scheme.”
Louisa has now retired from cricket and works with her parents and siblings in the family branding agency Champions UK Plc (www.championsukplc.com), in Loughborough.
“Location was a key factor. It’s great for work, which is only a two minute drive away,” she says.
The Willows is now into its final over, with only a few three and four-bedroom properties remaining and prices from £219,995.
While Louisa was able to stump up a 25% deposit and purchase on the open market, those who are saving for a home of their own could find they only need around £11,000 to secure a property with Help to Buy.
The Government-backed scheme enables those with a 5% deposit the chance to buy a new home for less as they can take out an equity loan for up to 20% of the price. It means a property usually costing £219,995 could be secured for an initial outlay of £175,996.
Redrow’s friendly, experienced sales team will be able to guide customers through the scheme.
“I was a bit scared at the prospect of buying my first home as it seemed complicated, but Lynne, the sales consultant, was great and called me with updates about the progress of the house. The site team have been really helpful too,” Louisa adds.
