Redrow Pledges £9million Community Investment in Droitwich
Allotments, orchards and affordable homes will be provided as part of a new homes development in Droitwich, Redrow has pledged.
The award-winning housebuilder has received reserved matters approval to build 241 new homes on land north of Pulley Lane and Newland Lane.
Known as The Orchards, the development, will enjoy a leafy setting with large orchards and allotments created alongside the new homes as part of £9million-plus investment in the local community.
Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), said: “Building new homes and helping to address the UK’s housing shortage is our core business, but we also recognise the importance of investing in the communities in which we operate. To help ensure the sustainability of our new Droitwich development we’ll be investing more than £9 million in the area so that as the neighbourhood grows, facilities and services in the area are not only maintained but enhanced for the benefit of both existing and new residents.
“For example, we’ll be investing £7.6million to provide 96 affordable homes. Plus, funding will also be allocated to education, transport, providing open space and supporting leisure facilities.”
More than £500,000 has been set aside for transport, including a cycling strategy, while more than £380,000 will be contributed towards local education facilities. Sports facilities at Droitwich Leisure Centre will receive a £200,000 boost and payments will also be made towards policing, recycling and public art.
Along with new homes from the Arts &Crafts influenced Heritage Collection, the development will also feature more than five acres of open space including two large attenuation ponds, four swales, and play areas with mature trees retained along the boundaries.
There’s also potential for future development of retail stores and a care home within the site.
The Orchards will offer 145 private sale homes in a choice of two, three four and five-bedroom designs, the first of which are due to be released for sale in early 2017.
