Redrow Runners Raising Money for Charity Close to Home
A pack of Redrow runners will tackle the Wolf Run – a hardcore off-road race with obstacles – to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
The 15-strong team includes people from across the various departments of Redrow’s Tamworth-based Midlands division, plus some who work for its parent company, Redrow Group, including regional chief executive Matthew Pratt.
Leading the pack in the fundraising is Mark Marsh, technical director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), whose daughter was treated at the hospital four years ago while suffering heart, kidney, bowl and back problems.
“She’s fine now, but the hospital did such a great job of looking after her and so many other children. It’s the biggest hospital in the Midlands and is such a worthy cause,” Mark explains.
“We started talking about the Wolf Run in the office and it’s grown from there. Some have taken part before but others haven’t. Some are seeing it as a bit of fun and a chance for everyone to get together while trying to raise money for the children’s hospital, but others are taking it more seriously. Brianne Asbury who’s 20 is the youngest taking part and says she’s not competitive but is training every day.”
Thanks to the generosity of colleagues and suppliers, they’ve already raised more than half of their £3,000 target.
“We’re getting support from the whole office, including the ones who don’t want to take on the 10km cross country run with obstacles,” adds Mark, who’s taken part in three previous Wolf Runs – the ‘Wolf’ stands for woods, obstacles, lakes and fields!
“It’s hard work but good fun. You run for about a kilometre at a time then have to tackle an obstacle. If we can get round together as a team and help each other out we will be happy.”
The winter Wolf Run takes place on November 5 and 6 at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire.
