Housebuilder Redrow Homes is recognising the vital contribution that apprentices make to the business by awarding its most talented trainees an ‘Apprentice of the Year’ accolade.
The developer has awarded the title of ‘Apprentice of the Year’ to 12 talented individuals who impressed judges with their performance in the last year; among them Robbie Bromley, from Telford. A further nine apprentices were highly commended.
Each year, Redrow recognises the success and hard work of its apprentices with the Apprentice of the Year award. Nominated by colleagues in the business and their NVQ coordinators, winners are then selected based on progress with their qualifications, how they have overcome and worked through adversity and challenges as well as evidence of how they have ‘gone the extra mile’.
Working for a FTSE 250 company, Redrow’s trainees work in a face paced, dynamic environment and have plenty of opportunities for career development. The business offers a wide range of apprenticeships, including in the trades of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and bricklaying, as well as office-based apprentices in a variety of administration, technical and commercial roles.
Tamworth-based Redrow Homes (Midlands) named groundworks apprentice Robbie Bromley as the apprentice of the year for the region.
Robbie, 20, has now finished his apprenticeship and has been taken on by MV Kelly but is still working at Redrow’s The Coppice development in Telford.
Robbie, who attended Telford College of Art and Technology as part his apprenticeship, said: “I’d definitely recommend an apprenticeship to people leaving school. When I left school I went to college and did some plastering and bricklaying, but hadn’t done any groundworks before I applied for the apprenticeship. I wanted to do something where I could learn and get a trade.
“I’ve really enjoyed learning new skills and putting them into practice on site. Being named apprentice of the year shows that I’m a keen worker. I’m proud of myself and what I’ve achieved. My goal for the future is to one day move into management.”
Office apprentice Eleanor Collins, who works in the administration department at Redrow’s divisional headquarters in Tamworth, was highly commended.
Eleanor, 23, who attended Stockport School and Stockport College, said:
“I only started with Redrow in February this year and have almost completed my NVQ in six months. It’s a lovely feeling to be acknowledged for the work that I do.”
Karen Jones, HR director for Redrow, said: “It is a pleasure to be able to recognise the achievements of those apprentices taking great strides in developing their career with us.
“Apprentices are vital to ensuring a skilled workforce for the future and as one of the top 100 apprentice employers in England, we are fully committed to investing in their learning and development.”
