CHILDREN at Millfield First & Nursery School now have a new pirate ship to explore thanks to a £1,000 funding boost from Redrow, the housebuilder responsible for new homes at The Maples in Buntingford.
The outdoor gym was identified as the target for fundraising by the school’s head teacher and very active Parent Teacher Association as a way to encourage children to keep fit from a young age and to help them gain confidence in using different equipment.
The first phase of the gym was installed earlier this year and was made possible thanks to a host of fundraising events at school and generous donations from local businesses.
The second phase – a fantastic wooden pirate ship suitable for early years children – was installed during the summer holidays after a £1,000 donation from Redrow and over £2,000 raised at the school’s summer fair.
Kerry McCoubrey, sales director for Redrow Homes (Eastern) said: “We are keen to play a part in building community links as well as homes, so were thrilled to be able to contribute towards the pirate ship. We hope all of the pupils at Millfield First & Nursery School will love spending time trying it out.”
Sara Poulton, chair of the PTA at Millfield First & Nursery School said: “The new equipment is a great addition to the existing outdoor facilities which include a playing field and outdoor garden. Thank you to the team at Redrow for their donation towards the pirate ship, which is enjoyed by our youngest pupils at play times.”
