Children of Redrow staff have been converted into rugby fans after the award-wining housebuilder’s teamed up with Worcester Warriors.
Redrow’s Tamworth-based Midlands division has agreed to sponsor the Warriors’ mascots and gave children of some of its staff the opportunity to take on the role during the recent match against Bristol at Sixways.
The youngsters were given a tour of the changing room and playzone before walking out through the tunnel at the start of the match with the players.
Two of land director Danny Cheal’s four children took part.
“It was a really good day. Casey is seven and loves football - this was the first rugby match he’s ever watched. He’s normally quite boisterous but was much more reserved because he was in awe of the size of the players. Sky is nine and it was her second rugby match. She took it all in her stride and even gave the BT Sport camera a cheeky smile,” Danny, who lives in Wolverhampton, said.
Area sales manager Julie Wild’s son Theo was also among the children involved.
“Theo’s only four and thought it was absolutely brilliant,” Julie, who lives in Solihull, said. “The crowd didn’t bother him – he’s looking forward to being able to do it again!
“He’s really into ice hockey and goes every week but now he wants to play rugby too. It was a really proud moment seeing him running out onto the pitch with the biggest smile on his face.”
On behalf of Worcester Warriors, business development manager Jack Royle said: “It’s been a really successful first season working with Redrow. Over 200 youngsters have had the opportunity to run out as a Redrow Mascot so far. These are lifelong memories for the families, and the feedback has been incredible.”
