Redrow wheels out sponsorship for Stafford Sportive
RIDESTAFFS have a new sponsor in the saddle – housebuilder Redrow Homes.
After a two-year break RideStaffs returns to the town centre with a new event the Stafford Sportive, with home town support from Redrow, who are building new homes off Tixall Road – and some of the homebuilder’s employees in its line-up.
Paul Rowlands, from RideStaffs, explained: “It’s the cycling equivalent to a 10km or half marathon with participants covering a 62 mile course. More than 300 people have already signed up but we have a capacity for up to 400 so there’s still time to enter. Participants need to be reasonably experienced cyclists who know they can cover the distance.”
The event, created with the Lewis Partnership, will start and finish at The Swan Hotel on Greengate Street and cover a route passing other Lewis Partnership venues. Riders can pre-register on Saturday, September 9 at The Swan Hotel, where they will be able to have their bikes checked. On-the-day registration opens from 7am on Sunday, September 10, with riders leaving from 8am. The first cyclists are expected to cross the finish line around 11.30am and the last by 3pm.
Paul added: “The event coincides with the final day of the Tour of Britain, featuring some of the best riders in the world and, thanks to Redrow’s sponsorship, we’ll have a big screen at the finish line, enabling participants to watch it live.”
Redrow mascots Buster and Buddy will join regional director Graham Micklewright at the event, helping hand out medals and prizes to participants.
Graham Micklewright, regional director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), said: “Events like the Stafford Sportive are what makes the area a great place to live as they foster a good sense of community. We’re happy to be able to lend our support to the event, particularly as a number of Redrow staff are taking part including planning director Richard Edwards, area sales manager Andy Cutler and site manager Dan Whitehouse. They’re all experienced cyclists who’ve previously taken on cycling challenges in aid of charity.”
