Calling all 2013 graduates - Redrow needs you!
As Redrow Homes launches its annual graduate recruitment drive, its former trainees are proving just how effective the scheme is at nurturing promising young talent.
Redrow’s graduate training programme brings a fresh influx of university leavers into the company’s ranks every year. It has proved to be the perfect spring board for a long-term career with the company as five of last year’s participants have been promoted to full time positions and will take up their new roles in January.
One graduate who will make the leap from trainee to permanent employee is Leanne Allen, based at Redrow’s South Midlands division in Northampton. The 25-year-old will begin her new role as land manager in the New Year. Leanne graduated with a geography degree from the University of Liverpool before going on to do an MA in planning at the University of Manchester. She joined Redrow’s Graduate Training Programme in September 2011 and has since gained experience in five key departments, Land, Technical, Construction, Sales and Commercial.
Leanne said: “After graduating I was keen to find a role that provided me with strong business grounding, presented a diverse range of opportunities and gave me the chance to be involved in fascinating industry. Redrow’s graduate programme had the perfect mix.
“The training has hugely helped my professional development and will be beneficial to me throughout my future career, particularly now I’m progressing to a management role. I have found the graduate scheme hugely enjoyable, varied and interesting and I look forward to continuing my progression within this excellent company.”
In September this year, the company welcomed five new graduates, who will no doubt be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Leanne and her colleagues; Conor Roberts, Matthew Tudor Owen, Gregory Allsopp, Chris Glover and Tom Pearson join Redrow’s divisional teams based in Cardiff, Ewloe, Bristol, Basildon and London respectively.
They have begun a high intensity training programme, which offers participants the chance to take on responsibility at an early stage, with the intention of developing them into future company leaders. It is a 15-month programme during which graduates spend time working in each key department of the business on rotation.
Karen Jones, HR Director at Redrow, said: “This training programme provides a solid platform from which to build a career with Redrow. It combines training, evidence gathering, project work and demonstration of competence to ensure they are well equipped to take on a prominent role within the company later.
“Successful candidates will face a challenging recruitment process, which includes a written application, telephone interview, assessment day and final interviews with divisional managing directors.”
In addition to its graduate programme, Redrow has also recruited eight under-graduate work placements and 32 new apprentices in 2012.
The undergraduate placement programme has also proved to be a route into full-time employment. In July this year Redrow welcomed back Sam Bullough, who undertook a 12-month undergraduate work placement with the firm in 2010/11. Sam has now taken up the position of assistant designer after completing his degree in Architectural Technology at The University of Huddersfield.
