Redrow provides funding boost for 'Hospice to Home' service
Children will continue to benefit from treatment and care in their own home from Claire House’s dedicated team thanks to a donation of £6,400 from house builder Redrow’s national charity.
Claire House is the hospice for children and young adults in Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, West Lancashire and the Isle of Man.
Whilst Claire House is focussed on helping the children and young adults to get the most out of every day regardless of their ability, its highly specialised care team can also provide support at home.
The donation from The Redrow Foundation has been earmarked for the charity’s ‘hospice to home’ service, which provides specialist respite, palliative and end of life care and support to children and young people and their families within the comfortable surroundings of the family home.
Redrow marketing account coordinator Hannah Hollowood nominated the charity for the donation after seeing how much it helped the family of 12-year-old Chad Bailey, from Treuddyn, in Flintshire, following his death in 2010 from a brain aneurysm.
Hannah, who is based at Redrow’s headquarters at St Davids Park, Ewloe, Flintshire, said: “Chad was my friend Tanya’s little brother. Following his death he was taken to Claire House for his family members to pay their last respects. They were also given bereavement support to help them through such a difficult time. Since then his family and friends have been raising money for Claire House and I wanted to see what Redrow could do to help.”
Hannah visited the Wirral-based hospice to present the donation and see the vital services it offers firsthand, including some of the holistic therapies that are available.
She added: “It was an honour to be invited to the hospice and see the wonderful care and support they offer to children including the holistic massage therapy. It was lovely to see that they have created such a nice environment for people who are experiencing very difficult circumstances.”
The Redrow Foundation is the national charity of housebuilder Redrow Homes, which builds new homes across England and Wales. It provides financial support for the relief of poverty and sickness in the UK and, in particular, to provide accommodation and related assistance, including respite care, especially to children, the elderly and those who are sick or infirm. To date it has contributed almost £400,000 to a wide variety of good causes.
Giorgia Pizzuto, trust fundraiser, said: “We are delighted at Claire House to have received such a generous donation from the Redrow Foundation towards our ‘hospice to home’ service. It is only through the support of people such as them that we are able to continue our vital work.”
Claire House is almost completely reliant on voluntary donations to fund its £2.5 million running costs per year. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year, but receives no guaranteed government funding. The hospice itself is a bright and vibrant place which provides a home from home environment for children and young adults with life shortening conditions as well as support for the whole family, emergency and end of life care when that time comes. Bereavement support is available for as long as it is needed.
Giorgia added: “Any support that we receive is hugely appreciated and makes a tangible difference to the lives of our special children, young people and their families.”
