Redrow's Manjeeta Pathak wins Construction News' 'Inspire Me' award
Redrow assistant site manager, Manjeeta Pathak, was named the winner of the ‘Inspire Me’ award at the CN Talent Awards in London on 21st November 2018.
The awards ceremony, which was attended by more than 400 guests at the Park Plaza London Riverbank hotel, are held to recognise excellence in training, recruitment, wellbeing and development.
Manjeeta received the highly coveted ‘Inspire Me’ accolade, which recognises individuals working in the construction industry who have helped to improve diversity or empowered women with the knowledge and confidence to advance their careers within construction.
Since joining us, Manjeeta has been a figurehead for attracting more women into the housebuilding industry. She regularly visits local schools to share her positive and inspirational journey into the construction sector. She also looks to encourage future female leaders on site and is currently mentoring one of our current graduates.
Being both a female in construction and from an ethnic minority background, Manjeeta is always looking to break down barriers within the construction industry, and having recognised a deficiency of spoken English among the subcontracted trade and labour teams, she volunteered to organise and coordinate basic English tuition for staff. With opportunities such as this limited through local authorities, this initiative created by Manjeeta allowed those, who otherwise wouldn’t have been given the opportunity, to develop their language skills and further their career prospects.
Manjeeta is also always eager to assist with additional projects and was instrumental in the success of our work to create temporary accommodation for homeless people in Bristol. Manjeeta worked closely with the charity ‘Help Bristol’s Homeless’ and other graduate trainees to transform an empty shipping container into a habitable space with no funds or resources.
Karen Jones, HR director at Redrow, comments: “It is fantastic to see Manjeeta’s hard work and commitment to improving diversity within the company rewarded with an industry-recognised accolade. Manjeeta goes above and beyond what is expected from her day-to-day role and helps make Redrow an inspiring place to work.
“Manjeeta is a great example for young women considering professional careers or skilled trade roles in construction to aspire to, but I would also consider her as an inspiration to us all.”
Manjeeta was also named the ‘Most Inspiring Rising Star’ in the ‘30 & over’ category at The Inspire Awards in Manchester on 5th June 2018.
