Redrow opens doors for hospice improvements
A much needed refurbishment programme in recent years has enabled the Hospice to provide larger patient rooms, more single rooms, improve its day therapy facilities and a new reception area.
And thanks to a £5,000 donation from the Redrow Foundation, the charity can now make further improvements.
Stephen Greenhalgh, chief executive of St Catherine’s Hospice, commented: “As part of our masterplan for the building we created a separate ambulance entrance so that patients can arrive more discreetly. This had the added benefit of enabling us to improve the reception area, which is now much brighter and more welcoming. We hope to install a porch to the rear entrance to reception and thanks to the generosity of the Redrow Foundation we’ll be able to progress this plan.”
St Catherine’s Hospice provides highly specialised care for local people living with serious medical conditions that can be treated but not cured. Most patients are cared for in their own homes, but the Hospice also provides 19 in-patient beds, 100 day therapy places a week and a range of specialised clinics.
It costs £4.9million a year to run the Hospice, with only £1.3million of that provided by the NHS.
Located in Lostock Lane, the Hospice is just a short journey away from Redrow’s Old Gate Park development in Claytongate Drive, Penwortham.
Namesake Steve Greenhalgh, land director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), commented: “Our business is building new homes and creating communities. We also like to get involved in existing communities in the areas where we build. St Catherine’s Hospice provides a valuable service to the people of Chorley, Preston and South Ribble and we’re delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile local cause.”
The Redrow Foundation is the national charity of housebuilder Redrow Homes, which builds new homes across England and Wales. It provides financial support for the relief of poverty and sickness in the UK and, in particular, to provide accommodation and related assistance, including respite care, especially to children, the elderly and those who are sick or infirm. To date it has contributed almost £400,000 to a wide variety of good causes.
