New Redrow MD returns to his roots
Taking the helm as managing director of Redrow Homes’ NW division, John Grime has returned to the patch where he began his career as a young land buyer.
Bringing with him over two decades of experience in the housebuilding sector, John is relishing the opportunity to grow the business in an area he knows so well, covering the North West of England and North Wales.
John, 48, said: “Not only am I returning to the patch where I started my Redrow career, I’m also arriving at a very exciting time for the business as we undergo a rapid expansion. The NW division is very important to the Group, representing the company’s heartland since it was founded in North Wales 40 years ago. The Redrow brand is well-established in this part of the UK and our product sets us apart from the competition for its blend of traditional architecture and modern interiors.
“With the housing market on an upward trend, there’s a real opportunity now for a strong period of growth for the division. We’ve got a good supply of land and we have set a target to more than double our turnover over the next three years.”
Originally from Lancashire and now living in Cheshire, John joined Redrow’s forward land department 22 years ago, just a couple of years after graduating from what was then Oxford Polytechnic with a degree in town planning. Thanks to Redrow’s culture of promoting from within he then rose through the ranks to become planning director in 2002. He switched to the Yorkshire division in 2008 to take up a regional director’s position before being appointed as managing director in 2010.
John Tutte, Redrow Group chief executive, said: “John’s vast experience, in-depth knowledge of the industry and extensive contacts in the North West and North Wales make him a valuable asset to the company. I’m delighted he has taken up a position in an area where the potential for growth is strong and I’m sure he will be every bit as successful in this role as he was while at the helm in Yorkshire.”
With headquarters at St David’s Park in Ewloe, Flintshire, the NW division oversees developments in Cheshire, North Wales, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
One of 11 Redrow divisions operating across England and Wales, NW currently has 14 live outlets with a further four due to open during the financial year.
Nationally Redrow builds around 3,500 new homes annually across England and Wales. Its primary emphasis is building traditional, family housing from its Heritage Collection but it also has a number of bespoke schemes, including luxury country homes and high value apartment schemes.
Currently celebrating its 40th year, Redrow Homes is one of the UK’s leading house builders, operating across England and Wales, with a strong emphasis on high quality family housing in prime locations. Its Heritage Collection of family homes combines traditional looking, ‘Arts & Crafts’ influenced exteriors with bright, modern, high specification interiors. The company has won numerous awards over the years, including, most recently, the 2014 Building Awards Housebuilder of the Year and four consecutive 5* awards in the Home Builder Federation (HBF) annual customer satisfaction survey in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Redrow also collected the Silver award in the Large Housebuilder category of the 2012 and 2013 What House? Awards; the award for best marketing initiative at the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Housebuilder Awards and its ‘My Redrow’ online tool won the overall Customer Engagement category at the 2013 Peer Awards for Excellence.
