Take a new view in Lancaster
When Scott and Gemma James visited Riverside View in Lancaster their preconceptions of brand new homes were immediately turned on their heads.
Having never really considered buying new, thinking they couldn’t get the character they desired, it was the estate agent who suggested they take a look at the Redrow homes as they may be pleasantly surprised…
And they were. Scott, 33, who works at Heysham Nuclear Power Station, found that not only did the new homes at Riverside View provide them with all the space they needed, but the desirable riverside location was pretty and handy for work. They also fell in love with the Heritage Collection homes themselves, which are inspired by a traditional ‘Arts & Crafts’ style but boast contemporary interiors.
“We loved the Cambridge showhome straight away,” Scott said. “We could really picture ourselves living in that style of home as it had plenty of room for a growing family. The Heritage styling has lots of character and we were really impressed with the build and finish.”
As a result it was a four-bedroom Cambridge that Scott, who’s from Bolton le Sands and Gemma, 25, who is born and bred Lancaster, plumped for as the perfect home for them and their 10 month old daughter Isla.
“We like the fact that the downstairs layout suits our circumstances with a large kitchen and family area as well as a separate lounge,” he added.
The family utilised Help to Buy, the scheme which reduces the initial cost of a new home and is particularly aimed at those who may not have been able to build up a substantial deposit. And with a young baby to care for they were delighted to discover that the process of applying was incredibly easy.
Scott said: “It was all very straightforward. It was taken care of for us by the financial people that Redrow put us in touch with so that really helped us out. We found that the after sales care was great too.
The Help to Buy equity loan can reduce the purchase price by 20%, leaving the customer needing a deposit of only 5% and then a 75% mortgage. The equity loan is interest free for five years and can be repaid when the customer has more funds available or comes to resell.
For those looking for a brand new home, even if – like the James family - they haven’t considered one before, Riverside View currently offers a range of four-bedroom homes, alongside the River Lune.
As well as its traditional looking Heritage Collection properties, Redrow has just introduced a specially designed, more contemporary looking housetype that’s bespoke to this location and designed to make the most of the surroundings. A selection of these prestigious three-storey, four-bedroom ‘Lancaster’ townhouses will provide an attractive frontage overlooking the river. A ‘Lancaster’ showhome is set to open early in 2015 so interested buyers can take a closer look at the new style.
Current prices range from £244,995 for a Lancaster up to £299,995 for a four-bedroom detached Cambridge or Canterbury. However, these prices can be reduced by up to 20% using Help to Buy.
Redrow’s development is only five minutes’ drive from the centre of historic Lancaster and the train station a mile away offers regular trains to Manchester, Preston and beyond. With a choice of primary schools and secondary schools close by the area is an excellent choice for families.
The marketing suite and show home are open every day except Thursdays. For more information call 01524 298730 or go online at www.redrow.co.uk.
