After renting for two years, first-time buyer Monika Mcilhatton was keen for her and her 10 year-old daughter to find a home they could make their own quickly and easily.
After looking around the Rochdale area and not finding an older property that suited their needs, she decided that it wouldn’t hurt to look at Redrow’s Birch Grange venture. Expecting a new home in Rochdale to be out of her price range she was excited to discover that with the aid of the Help to Buy scheme, she could afford a brand new home.
The scheme means the initial cost can be reduced by up to 20% thanks to a government-backed equity loan and only a 5% deposit is needed.
What’s more, she could keep an eye on the home’s progress and personalise it to her and her daughter Chloe’s liking using a special online service.
That service is called ‘My Redrow’. Designed to make the home search and purchase a more personal experience, it also brings the process of buying a property in step with other sectors, which already harness the power of the internet to its full potential.
“When I first visited Birch Grange, I fell in love with the showhome and all the beautiful interior design touches. Utilising My Redrow I could use the showhome as a template and add the decorations and finishing touches that I liked based on what I had seen,” Monika, 33, said.
“It was easy to use and fitted in well with my working day and busy lifestyle. I could log on in the evening, see the progress and keep up-to-date with all the little tasks that needed doing like submitting forms. Everything was listed in a simple way with the things I’d already done showing a little tick next to them. It was by far the easiest way of keeping an eye on things than any previous moves I have made. And it was great that I could choose the fixtures and fittings in my own time.”
The service also gives potential customers who create an account the chance to select favourite properties and developments, book appointments online, and save everything in one place.
Already acknowledged as being ahead of the field within the housing sector, My Redrow triumphed against other sectors in the Technology for Engagement category of the 2013 Peer Awards before winning the prize for Overall Customer Engagement.
Anyone browsing for a Redrow home is able to register with My Redrow and see full details of what is included within the high specification of a Redrow home. Customers who then reserve can choose their finishing touches and put their own unique design stamp on everything from kitchen units, work surfaces and tile choices to wardrobes, fireplaces and even light switches.
“The whole process was great, not daunting at all,” Monika, who works for a car finance company, added. “And I could still head into the marketing suite if I had any questions, where they were always happy to help. My Redrow is a fabulous tool and I was able to move in quickly and very efficiently as I was always up to speed with how far along the build was and I knew exactly what I needed to do.”
Monika and her daughter Chloe are now about to move into their new three-bedroom ‘Warwick’ property. “We’re very excited about moving in,” she said. “I’m so pleased I walked into the marketing suite that day. I loved the Warwick’s style as it looked like a gingerbread house!”
Homebuyers can register for My Redrow at www.redrow.co.uk by clicking on the My Redrow tab at the top of the homepage. Customers who visit Birch Grange, off Birch Road in the Wardle area of Rochdale can also receive a demonstration of My Redrow in the marketing suite.
The last phase at Birch Grange has just been released and homebuyers are being urged to visit the development soon to avoid missing out on the last few homes available.
The development enjoys views over neighbouring fields and the Pennines beyond and the remaining three and four-bedroom detached homes, range from £219,995 to £269,995.
