Knowsley Mayor presents award to Summer Hill Park
Knowsley Mayor, Cllr Frank Walsh, has presented Redrow Homes with a prestigious award for its Summerhill Park homes.
He was able to see first-hand the progress made at the award winning new homes venture, where 122 homes have already legally completed and a further 25 have been sold.
He also heard how the development is employing up to 120 people per day and supporting local shops and services.
Summerhill Park was named Housing Development of the Year at the 2014 Knowsley Business and Regeneration Awards, organised by Knowsley Borough Council and held late last year at Knowsley Safari Park.
Today’s event was an opportunity for the Mayor to see progress and to officially present the trophy to Redrow.
The Mayor of Knowsley, Cllr Frank Walsh, said: “I’m delighted to see the great progress being made at Summerhill Park.
“This is a fantastic development by Redrow which really supports our aim of enhancing the quality housing stock in Knowsley and making the borough a great place to live.
“I’m also particularly pleased to see the number of local people who are being employed on site, which is a great boost to the local workforce.
“I congratulate Redrow for this well-deserved award and look forward to seeing further progress at Summerhill Park over the coming months.”
Under current plans the development will eventually comprise 479 new homes, with a finished worth of circa £100 million. Assuming an average of council tax band B and D properties across the 19-acre site, it’s expected to generate a ‘New Homes Bonus’ receipt for the council of approximately £4.1 million over a number of years. This central government grant is in addition to the actual council tax revenue that will be collected from home owners.
Claire Jarvis, sales director of Redrow Homes (Lancashire), commented: “In addition to the New Homes Bonus and council tax receipts, our development is also employing local people, supporting local services and contributing to local improvements. We’re extremely pleased that Knowsley Council recognised this fact and are very proud of this award.”
Currently, between 100 and 120 people are employed on site at Summerhill Park each day and many of these sub-contractors are from the local area. Redrow is also investing in substantial areas of new public open space, both on and off-site, as well as contributing £45,000 to footpath/cycleway links to the Sustrans Liverpool Loop Line, which runs along the western boundaries of the site and links to Knotty Ash, Childwall and other destinations.
Redrow will also pay a subsidy to a bus operator over a five-year period to either amend an existing bus service or introduce a new service through the development.
Sales of new homes at Summerhill Park are approximately six to nine months ahead of the build schedule and many customers have benefited from the Government’s Help to Buy equity loan scheme, which reduces the initial cost of a new home by 20%.
