Couple Looking for Cottage Won Over by Brand New Home
The couple had started their search for a cottage or cottage-style property in the Ribble Valley area but were unable to find something that didn’t require a lot of work and upkeep.
Having sold their large Whalley home, they were looking for something smaller but still able to accommodate three grown-up children and their families for Christmas and other events.
“We really didn’t want a project,” Andrew, 57 explained. “We had already done a fair bit of searching and then we were in a shop one day in Whalley and the proprietor suggested that we take a look at Redrow’s Lawson Rise.
“A new home hadn’t been on our radar, but on his recommendation we went to take a look and we were very impressed. We wandered around the show home and liked everything we saw; especially the character and the fact that we wouldn’t have to do anything significant to it.
“We’re keen gardeners too so we liked that the garden was a clean slate. We went away and came back the following day to sign for a Balmoral house type, the same style as the show home. We loved all the Arts and Crafts-style features.”
The cul-de-sac location and the stone fronted design were also winners for Andrew, a retired solicitor, and his wife Jean, a former nurse.
Knowing Whalley well, having lived there many years – and Andrew was actually born in a maternity home about 50 yards away from the Lawson Rise development - being just a few minutes’ walk to the centre of the village was very appealing.
“It’s a lovely village – we’ve brought up our three children in Whalley and they really love coming back. We can easily get to Manchester to see one of our daughters and it’s a fabulous retreat for our other two children who live in London,” Andrew added.
Lawson Rise is perfect for those who want to to put their design stamp on a new home, as well as being the ideal place to bring up a family or, like the Church-Taylors, welcome back grown-up children.
As well as all the charming attributes of Whalley, the development is close to Clitheroe, surrounded by some beautiful Lancashire countryside and boasts easy access to Blackburn, Preston and Burnley. Lawson Rise features 54 properties, including 38 of Redrow’s larger, premium specification four and five-bedroom detached family homes, currently priced from £389,995.
