Get more 'house' for your money in Greater Manchester
CANNY commuters are homing in on a great deal by purchasing perfect properties just outside the city.
City centre apartments are increasingly being rejected by workers who are preferring to get a better life balance by setting down roots in community-based developments like Redrow’s Bridgewater View.
“It is something we are seeing more and more of,” says Rosamond Day, relationship manager for independent estate agent Property Perspective. “The two-bedroom flat in the centre of town is great for a while but people then want a real home, somewhere where there is a community feel.
“They don’t want to wake up on a Saturday morning to the hustle and bustle of the city, or to be continually on the office doorstep. They want to be able to get away from all that and escape, perhaps to a bit of greenery, a walk in the park.
“I’ve just done it myself!”
Rosamond adds: “By moving out of the city into somewhere like Bridgewater View in Mosley Common, not only do people get that balance but they also get more house for their money. It makes sense from both a personal and financial point of view.
“For the same price as a two-bed city high-rise, you can get a three-bedroom home with much more room, off-roading parking, a garden and lovely surroundings. And, when friends come to visit, there is somewhere for them to stay.”
Redrow’s Bridgewater View off Mosley Common Road is one of the builder’s popular north west developments. A collection of three and four-bedroom homes from £239,950, it’s just nine miles from Manchester and within easy reach of the guided busway and extensive motorway network, yet with plenty of open countryside around and about to enjoy.
“You’re close to the East Lancashire Road and the motorway network so it’s easy to get into and out of town, for work or a night out with friends,” explains Rosamond. “But you’re also near parks, some lovely restaurants and shopping centres like the Trafford Centre.
“It’s ideal for a range of buyers from singles and couples wanting that little bit more to families with good schools and other amenities close by.”
Homes at Bridgewater View are from Redrow’s award-winning Heritage Collection which boasts traditional, craftsmanship exteriors inspired by the Arts & Crafts period of the 1930s, complemented by bright and spacious, modern interiors.
Its three-bedroom Ludlow, for example, is a delightful semi-detached property which has a luxury seldom seen in other similar homes, offering a large fully-fitted kitchen and dining area downstairs, together with a charming lounge and practical cloakroom and laundry.
While upstairs there are three good-sized bedrooms, with the master benefiting from en-suite, and a family bathroom.
