Michael puts himself in the picture after sales success
For not only has the 39-year-old helped house sales soar at Meadow View in Oldham – he has just been awarded the title of sales consultant of the year for Redrow Homes in Lancashire.
The award comes only 18 months after Michael changed jobs and joined the company to fit in with family life, but he says: “It was absolutely the right decision.
“I love my job and I love developing a relationship with customers. It is really exciting that all my hard work seems to have paid off and the award confirms that. It feels good.”
Michael was sales consultant when Meadow View launched in April last year and it was his job to get interest off the ground from a standing start. And he did so, with superb results.
Meadow View is a development of mainly four-bedroom detached home with a small number of three-bedroom properties too. Now, only nine months after work began, 29 of the 47 homes have been sold and 15 of them are already cosy homes to lucky buyers. Plus, there are ‘early bird’ registrations on many of those that remain.
“It takes some developments time to gain interest for no obvious reason and you have to make an extra effort,” says Michael, who is married to Nuala with whom he has a son, Callum, two-and-a-half, and another baby due in March.
“But I always look at the bigger picture – like now, when I know there are customers wanting to move here but no homes available because of its success. I have to focus on what people are wanting, matching their needs with the homes we have or will have soon.”
Before joining Redrow, Michael, from Stockport, worked in customer services for a satellite TV company and as a photographer, but juggling jobs proved difficult when family came along, and he wanted more stability for himself and Nuala.
He worked initially at Lucas Green in Whittle-Le-Woods, near Chorley, before moving to Meadow View when building work began: “It has been really exciting to be part of something from the outset, it’s like my baby and, while it had its challenges, it has been great to see it grow and flourish. We have had an exceptional year.
“I was still surprised to win the award, though, because it is not just about sales – so many other things are considered by those who make the decision – so I’m delighted and honoured. I would love to have a long career with Redrow and maybe progress so that as my family grows, my career grows too.”
Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), is full of praise for Michael. She says: “Meadow View was a new development and we had a limited database of potential customers prior to us launching so whoever took on selling it was going to have to work hard and help to locate people for whom it would be perfect.
“Although Michael had only worked for us for six months we had seen how committed he was and how well he built relationships up with customers.
“Michael worked hard to help people secure their dream home, utilising incentives like our Mastermove scheme, which supports those who have an existing property to sell, and making sure customers really understood its value. He also successfully sold ‘My Redrow’ options and extras, which meant that not only did buyers get the best of houses, they got the best of homes, tailor-made for them.”
