An open age football team in Poynton has scored support from housebuilder Redrow.
Redrow has donated just over £1,000 to Lostock Rangers as part of the Woodford community fund that the housebuilder set up last year. The football club, based at Lostock Hall Primary School, is just one of the many local clubs and groups that will be benefiting from the scheme.
Julian Pritchard, chairman of Lostock Rangers, said: “The money Redrow has donated will provide kits for one of our open age teams, as well as covering a year’s worth of match day sponsorship.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Redrow and their support as we are a not-for-profit organisation and we take pride in providing an effective way for everyone, of all ages, to play football or get fit.
“Our club is driven by inclusion and fairness; it’s not all about building a football business and winning, and we are run and operated by volunteers with very little funding from national or local bodies, so contributions from local businesses with the same mind set as us, are very much welcomed.”
Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), added: “Redrow loves to get involved in the communities in which it builds and we have been particularly active in Woodford, inviting local groups to apply for Redrow funding last year.
“We were only too happy to help out the football club as its ethos of being a welcoming and friendly club for everyone nearby is something we can whole-heartedly support.”
Lostock Rangers currently runs junior teams from age six to 18, open age teams and they are in the process of trying to form an open age ladies’ team. Community activities include supporting Lostock Hall Primary school with a weekly football hobby club for boys and girls of all ages, and providing a Saturday morning soccer club that offers football education/ training to local children between the ages of three and 12.
