Sam scoops apprentice of the year award
Sam Wainwright, 21, impressed the judges so much at the inaugural South and West Cheshire College Apprenticeship Awards, he came away with the accolade of Apprentice of the Year for Building Services and the Built Environment.
Sam, who is in his third year of a Redrow apprenticeship, was declared the winner of at a glitzy ceremony held at the college’s Ellesmere Port campus. The red carpet event included speeches by Colin Brew, chief executive officer at West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce; plus from Bentley Motors Lynne Williams, head of people development and talent management and Julia Teale future talent manager.
Sam, from Mynydd Isa, is now set to finish his apprenticeship at Oaklands, Ledsham Garden Village, after previously working at a Redrow development in Buckley, North Wales.
He said: “I’m really pleased to have won this award, it’s particularly special as I’m the first person to win it! It’s great to be recognised by people who have been so successful in their careers. Everyone in the Redrow team has been brilliant, I’ve been learning from the best, and I’m looking forward to continuing my apprenticeship at Oaklands.”
Paul Cromby, area construction manager for Daresbury-based Redrow Homes (NW), added: “We’re very proud of Sam. He’s extremely conscientious, hard-working and always looking for the next job. We hope he has a long future ahead of him at Redrow.”
