A new 'lifestyle' in Woodford for Carolyn and Granville
“We had seen the Village developing and watched with curiosity like everyone else, admits Carolyn. “We weren’t looking for a new-build at all, but we had looked at a number of other houses in the area and realised there was nothing that suited us.”
It wasn’t so much the size of their old home in nearby Bramhall that had prompted the decision to move, but its position: “We had a beautiful five-bedroom home, a family home, but it was in a cul-de-sac and you had to go uphill to get to it which made it difficult getting in and out in winter,” Carolyn explained.
“Our children had suggested we downsize and we wanted to buy somewhere where we could walk to the shops and that would be easier to look after. We didn’t want a bungalow because we wanted stairs to keep us active, and we didn’t want to be surrounded by people of the same age.”
The retired couple, both in their 70s, decided to look at Woodford Garden Village more seriously than they had previously - and they were instantly smitten; especially when they discovered Redrow’s new ‘Lifestyle’ properties.
Built on the footprint of homes that would normally have more bedrooms, Redrow has reduced the number of bedrooms by one in all Lifestyle properties so the remaining bedrooms are larger, more spacious, all en-suite and with a superb level of luxury.
Carolyn, a retired education advisor for children in care, and Granville, who had his own company in the oil industry, chose an Oxford Lifestyle property.
The Oxford Lifestyle looks the same from the outside as its four-bedroom counterpart and the ground floor rooms and features remain exactly the same too. But the master bedroom is more like a luxury hotel suite, stretching the complete depth of the home and boasting a walk-through wardrobe/dressing area and generous en-suite with both a bath and walk-in shower. The two other bedrooms, both doubles, also enjoy an en-suite.
“It means the main bedroom is a great big one which we love,” said Carolyn, “and the other two aren’t small either. There is plenty of room when guests come to stay and, while we have the third bedroom set up as a ‘spare’ guest bedroom with twin beds and furniture, it would also be very useful as a multi-purpose room. It could house a modern sofa or day bed, furniture, a TV and space to accommodate a laptop or desktop computer; on the lines of a business hotel room or, indeed, a luxury student pad!”
But it’s not just the bedroom layout that appealed to the couple.
“We love downstairs too and, while the kitchen is classed as a dining and kitchen area, we have converted it into a living kitchen, with a sofa, armchair and TV, as well as a dining table and chairs, and it isn’t overcrowded at all.
“The home is low maintenance, and far more economical both financially and energy-wise than our previous property,” Carolyn added.
Woodford Garden Village is Redrow’s flagship new development on the South Manchester / Cheshire border. Transforming the site of the historic former Woodford Aerodrome, Redrow’s development is close to Wilmslow, Poynton and Bramhall and within commuting distance of Stockport and Manchester.
Redrow has three phases of development underway, the original Woodford Garden Village phase with premium three, four and five-bedroom detached homes from £484,995 to £990,995; Lancaster Green, which features three and four-bedroom detached from £470,995; and the recently launched Vulcan Grove, which currently has three and four-bedroom mews style properties and townhouses, as well as some detached homes, with prices from £349,995. A three-bedroom Oxford Lifestyle is available at Vulcan Grove from £486,995.
As well as quality homes Woodford Garden village will feature a host of brand-new amenities, including a school, sports facilities, a dedicated health centre, its own shops and 19 area of play, parks or public open space.
Carolyn added: “There are lovely walks around us, a lot of natural features have been retained and it feels safe – it’s just a really pleasant place to live. The amenities offered by the development appealed because it is more of a village, it has its own little community. It’s also laid out so beautifully – and will be even more so once it gets established – and, importantly for us, it is flat.”
