Lancashire Commercial Manager celebrates 25 years with Redrow
The 54-year-old from Clayton-le-Woods, has been involved in the development of thousands of Redrow homes across Lancashire, including the newly-established Buckshaw Village community setting.
“That’s been quite a journey,” he reflects. “My first involvement with this site was back in October 2000 and the last plot was completed in June this year.”
John was also involved in overseeing the financial management behind Tabley Green in Fulwood, near Preston, which provides a range of family homes from Redrow’s iconic Arts & Crafts-inspired Heritage Collection.
Redrow’s high quality homes and positive impact for the community it serves were recently acknowledged with a 5* accolade in the UK Property Awards. According to John, the ‘final product’ delivered by Redrow is something he’s most proud of.
“Redrow do build a fantastic product. You can walk on to any Redrow development and the street scene will be amazing. Our homes really do stand out from the rest,” he adds.
In his time with us John has seen it all – including the evolution from typewriters to computers, but admits post-it notes have been a highly-valued desk item over the years!
John first joined our Lancashire team in the commercial department as a quantity surveyor, progressing to senior quantity surveyor, then chief quantity surveyor. He is now commercial manager in the same department he joined back in 1993.
Unsurprisingly for someone never too far away from a calculator, getting a good deal is something that gives John immense satisfaction.
“I enjoy negotiating with and building up valuable relationships with our subcontractors and suppliers and I also enjoy analysing our costs to ensure that we are always getting value for money,” he adds.
Away from work, John is a keen hiker and he points to taking part in the daunting Three Peaks challenge – encompassing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon and arranged as part of Redrow’s 40th anniversary in 2014 – as one of his most memorable occasions.
“It was a great experience, helped bond the team and raised lots of money for a worthy cause in the process,” he reflects.
