Housebuilder's staff raise £18,600 for North Wales Mental Health Charity
The cause, which provides services in Flintshire and Wrexham, was selected by staff based at Redrow’s Ewloe headquarters as their chosen charity for 2017.
Over the course of the year, employees dedicated themselves to raising funds through a mix of physical challenges and office events, including The Three Peaks Challenge, dress down days, raffles and auctions.
Staff raised a fantastic total of £12,401, which was increased to £18,602 thanks to Redrow’s matched funding scheme, which means the company donates £1 for every £2 raised by its employees for their chosen charity of the year.
North East Wales (NEW) Mind is a local charity, dedicated to providing advice and support for anyone in Flintshire and the borough of Wrexham with a mental health problem.
Their Wellbeing Centre in Mold is a hub for information and advice, counselling, self-management training courses, social activities, mindfulness, relaxation and holistic therapies. A long-standing Saturday drop-in, held every week of the year, provides vital support when other mental health services are closed.
Jenny Murphy, chief officer at NEW Mind, said: ‘‘We were delighted that Redrow Homes chose us as their Charity of the Year for 2017 and we are absolutely thrilled that they have raised an amazing £18,602.
“The money will make a real difference to the lives of people with mental health problems. For many years people in Wrexham have been asking us to open up new services there and this money will support a new, easy access drop-in so that Wrexham people can get information and support whenever they need it. We’ll also be using it to develop new services for young people. We’d like to thank everyone at Redrow who helped make this possible”
Emma Davies, of Redrow, said: “NEW Mind is a wonderful cause and provides an outstanding service to those experiencing mental health issues in the local area. Our staff undertook a host of fundraising activities, including the Three Peaks Challenge, which is a massive test of endurance to climb Snowdon, in Wales, Scafell Pike, in England and Ben Nevis, in Scotland in just 48 hours.
“We’re all delighted to have raised more than £18,600 and hope this will make a real difference to the charity and the people who benefit from its services.”
Redrow is one of the UK’s leading house builders, creating around 5,000 new homes every year in England and Wales. Employees based at St David’s Park, Ewloe, provide group wide services to all of the housing divisions, including HR, marketing, design, technical and IT support.
