Dozens of young people to benefit after charity dials in support from Redrow

6th October 2021
Redrow - News - North West - Hartford Young NSPCC Donation

Up to 125 helpline calls from young people in need of support could be answered thanks to Hartford Young NSPCC and our donation.

The charitable group successfully applied to our latest Hartford Community Fund and received a £500 grant.

It costs £4 for Childline counsellors to answer each contact from children across the country, and this funding could effectively support 125 young people.

Linda Barnes, treasurer of Hartford Young NSPCC, said: “We’re hugely grateful to Redrow for this funding, which could enable our counsellors to offer advice and support to 125 children across the UK, and offer help and guidance when they need it most.

“Childline gives children and young people a voice and support when they might feel they have nowhere else to turn. During the last 18 months, the number of children contacting Childline has risen, and we know more and more young people need to speak in confidence to someone about issues from neglect, abuse, exam stress, bullying, relationships, mental health issues and how the pandemic is affecting them. This funding will be a big help to many young people in their darkest hours.”

We’ve previously supported Hartford Young NSPCC by raising money for the Speak Out, Stay Safe campaign via a Christmas event and has donated money towards training Childline volunteers.

The latest donation is via a £5,000 fund shared amongst good causes close to the Weaver Park and Water’s Reach developments.

Area sales manager Caroline Thompson-Jones said: “It’s important that young people have someone to talk to in confidence about whatever issues are on their minds. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have family or friends to turn to and so services like Childline can make a real difference to those in need of support. Given the challenges that everyone has faced in light of the pandemic, we were keen to help Hartford Young NSPCC and Childline, offer a listening ear to young people.”

Linking with Hartford Young NSPCC resonated with us as we’re committed to supporting the wellbeing of our own workforce. We’ve signed up to the construction industry’s Building Mental Health Charter and trained dozens of staff as Mental Health First Aiders to help support colleagues and sub-contractors.
