Chester Nomads FC scored £650 for new lockers after applying to a voluntary community fund linked to new homes being built at Kings Moat Garden Village in Chester.
Welfare officer for Chester Nomads (Girls) Lisa Harrison explained: “Support and involvement in women and girls’ football has grown exponentially over the past few years. Nomads welcomed more than 100 players across seven girls’ teams and we’ve been approved by the FA as a Wildcats Centre to develop the youngest female talent. It’s important that we provide safe changing facilities and secure lockers for our players’ belongings and for opposition teams too as our opponents can travel up to an hour to games. With Redrow’s help we’ve been able to purchase new lockers.”
Funding for the lockers was via a £10,000 community fund shared amongst good causes near Kings Moat Garden Village of family homes and green spaces, off Wrexham Road, Chester.
Area sales manager Caroline Thompson-Jones said: “We’re proud supporters of grassroots sports and our community funds have supported a variety of clubs helping people of all ages and abilities stay fit and active. We were happy to be able to step in and provide Chester Nomads players and their opponents with somewhere safe to store their belongings while they’re on the pitch.
“Along with new homes, Kings Moat Garden Village will offer a range of community facilities including its own sports pitches, enabling residents to stay fit and active close to home.”
