Scouts honour! Helping local clubs in Huntingdon to create greener spaces

13th April 2022
Redrow - News - South Midlands - Scouts Donation

Our South Midlands division, which is currently building at Alconbury Weald on Bardolph Way, has donated land on the development to the 1st Alconbury Scout Group to help the Scouts’ mission ‘to make Alconbury an even greener space’.

On the day, eight Scouts planted 45 trees and enlisted the help of Shelly Thomas, our Sale Consultant, who was more than happy to offer her support by helping to dig the holes ready for planting.

Based in Alconbury village, the Group is expanding with the new community at neighbouring Alconbury Weald. The 1st Alconbury Scout Group is a youth group which actively engages and supports children, aged eight to 16, in their personal development by empowering them to make positive contributions to society through creative and memorable opportunities that benefit others.

Commenting on the day, Claire Gent, Scout Leader, said: “We want to say a big thank you to Redrow South Midlands for kindly providing us with land to plant our trees. The Scouts loved getting to work planting the trees and are looking forward to seeing them grow – thank you Redrow!”.

Suzanne Irons, Sales Director for South Midlands, said: “As members of the Alconbury Weald community, we are keen to support local people who make a huge difference in the community. We want to say a big thank you to 1st Alconbury Scout Group who have made our development a greener space with their trees.

“We are committed to creating a positive impact on the area surrounding Alconbury Weald and the community groups which help make Alconbury Weald a great place to live. We look forward to welcoming the Scouts back and seeking their help on how we can continue to make Alconbury Weald an even greener space to live in.”

The tree-planting activity forms part of our ongoing commitment to promote health and wellbeing in the community.

Located in the north of Huntingdon, Alconbury Weald provides a unique home for families. With many schools and community facilities nearby, the development is also bringing forward its own “Town Centre” hub with shops and services, and offers 600 acres of open spaces, woodlands and parks.
