'Topping Out' Maintains Momentum for Maidenhead's Regeneration Plan
Cllr Derek Wilson, cabinet member for planning for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, was present at the event to mark the end of construction and celebrate another key milestone in the regeneration of Maidenhead.
Suitably dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE), the guests were invited up to the roof top to witness the completion of the roof on the first apartment block. Redrow Homes also gave an overview of the development which is named after local author Hugh John Lofting, creator of Dr Dolittle - one of the classics of children’s literature – who was born in Maidenhead.
The first phase of The Loftings will consist of 160 private contemporary one, two and three bedroom apartments in a prime location of Maidenhead, which will be ready for occupation in November 2017.
Cllr Simon Dudley, council leader, said: “The regeneration of Maidenhead is bringing vibrancy to our already great town as well as all-important homes and I’m pleased that nearly one third of the 227 units in the first phase of this project will be affordable homes.”
Cllr Derek Wilson, cabinet member for planning, added: “It was great to see first hand the latest homes to be under construction in the borough and see how this addition to Maidenhead is nearing completion.”
Mark Vanson, Sales and Marketing Director at Redrow Homes Southern Counties, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Cllr Wilson to the topping out ceremony at The Loftings – it’s a great way to celebrate such a milestone and we thank all those who attended for coming along.
“The homes are already proving popular and drawing interest from those local to Windsor and Maidenhead as well as people looking for a more affordable property outside of London. As the homes come to life we anticipate interest to only grow, particularly as the development is situated close to the railway station and in the proximity of the new Crossrail station, which opens in December 2019.
“Added to this, the town itself is being rejuvenated and is aiming to attract more business into the town, enhance local employment prospects and, in turn, increase the demand for property.”
The developments position near to the River Thames has also played a part in the naming of the apartment blocks and apartment types; the blocks after famous rowers including The Redgrave, The Gregory, The Pinsent, The Foster, The Cracknell and The Reed. The apartment types are named after rowing clubs dotted along the river including The Leander, The Kingston, The Goring and The Quintin.
Prices at The Loftings currently start at £304,950. A show apartment and sales centre will be opening in the next few weeks.
