Transport for London engineer Joe Baldwin steps onto the property ladder at Ebbsfleet Green
Joe commented: “Each month since I started work I have put aside some of my pay cheque, managing to accumulate a 25% deposit (with just a tiny bit of help from the Bank of Mum and Dad). I work nights with Transport for London, looking after the tracks on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly Lines – the end goal of buying a home was a definite motivator during some of those shifts!”
Living with his parents in Gravesend until he saved enough to afford his own place, Joe heard about the nearby garden city a few years ago. Though he knew of the plan to transform the area into a new community his decision to buy there all happened over one weekend.
Joe said: “I walked into the sales office at Ebbsfleet Green one Friday after I had a looked at some of the neighbouring development sites and was immediately convinced that a Redrow home was the one for me. The Redrow apartments are so spacious and offer great value for money. My ground floor apartment cost £270,000 and has two large double bedrooms and an en suite off the master bedroom. As the name implies, the whole development was really green and there is lots of open space planned, which really appealed to me as I won’t have my own garden – so I get all the benefit, with no upkeep!”
“The other bonus with buying a Redrow home is their MyRedrow tool, whereby you can easily follow along with the build and upgrade different elements of your home. I changed my hob from a gas to induction, selected different colour schemes for the kitchen and bathroom and changed the style of the fitted wardrobes. Being able to personalise a new build apartment is a really nice touch and makes sure the finished product reflects your individual tastes.
“The Sales Consultant was unbelievably helpful as I really had no clue about all the different elements of buying a property. It is one of the biggest purchases you make but no one explains how the whole system works until it’s your turn to purchase. By the Sunday evening I had put down the holding deposit and I never looked back.”
