The Jackson-Smith family settle into life at The Mulberries in Witham
When it comes to finding a new home, the Jackson-Smith family are top class.
Being close to a good schools was a priority for dad Garth, 39, while mum Vannessa, 34, wanted both privacy and play parks for the couple’s children Cameron, seven, and Emma, five, to enjoy.
The family are now happily settled in a four-bedroom Blackmore house type at Redrow’s development The Mulberries in Witham, Essex.
Garth said: “Being parents, we obviously want our children to receive the best education possible. When we were searching for our new home The Mulberries stood out as it is very close to Chipping Hill Primary School which is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. We then found out that there are plans for a road through the development linking to Maltings Academy. This means that when it is time for Cameron and Emma to go to secondary school, they will have an easy and safe route to an excellent school. It also gives them that important independence to make the journey on their own.”
At Redrow we pride ourselves on building sustainable, vibrant communities that enrich the lives of residents. You can read more about our Placemaking initiative here.
Schools are a vital part of the placemaking puzzle. Our 2017 Creating Britain’s new communities report found that nationally 90.3% of people consider a primary school important when creating a sustainable community. Recent research by Santander Mortgages also found that across the South East, homebuyers are willing to pay a 13% premium for a home near good educational facilities.
Vannessa said: “It wasn’t just the location that appealed to us. Other new developments in the area haven’t prioritised open space in the way that Redrow has. The homes at The Mulberries are spread out, giving us a bit of privacy, whilst the open space and play parks creates areas for the community to come together.“
HR professional Garth splits his working week between Watford and central London. The regular and direct connections from Witham station, moments from The Mulberries, to London Liverpool Street station are ideal.
Garth said: “Witham has always been the ideal location for us as it fits around our family and working lives. The train station is nearby for me to get into London twice a week and the road connections are great for the rest of the week when I am based in Watford. Vannessa has the best commute though - a short walk to the local school where she works as a learning support assistant.”
Using the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, the couple only had to provide a 5% deposit in order to purchase Redrow’s three-storey Blackmore house type for £369,995 and have found the flexibility of three-storey living incredibly practical.
Garth commented: “The third floor gives me and Vannessa our own space, and gives the children a floor to themselves. The generous size of the master bedroom also gives me space for a desk, which I can then use when working from home once a week.”
Redrow is currently delivering a selection of three and four bedroom homes at The Mulberries. Available homes start from £372,995. For further information visit: www.redrow.co.uk/themulberries or call 01376 767475.
