We have commissioned artist Liz Middleton to capture residents’ views on what the community at Ebbsfleet Green means to them. The public art survey is open throughout February (2021) and is an opportunity for people to share their stories and contribute to the visual identity of the public art being delivered at the new community.
Arts and culture are fundamental to wellbeing, developing a sense of place, building communities, and bringing joy and inspiration to people’s lives. The project aims to integrate art into the physical and social infrastructure of Ebbsfleet Green.
Through art created specifically in response to the Ebbsfleet Green area and community, we hope to celebrate local heritage, enhance people’s experience through creativity, and generate a sense of identity and pride amongst its residents.
Liz Middleton says “As well as looking into the cultural context and history of the area, I want to hear from the community about what is important to them in order to capture Ebbsfleet Green’s unique identity. The website is my way of creating a space to meet and talk during lockdown.
“Residents and locals of any age can use the February survey to share their stories and tell me what is special about their neighbourhood. People can share as little or as much as they want. There are no wrong answers, whatever they think, and feel is right and will be really helpful. Or they can just get in touch and we will talk – I would love to hear from as many people as possible, everyone is welcome!”.

The website introduces the Project, the Artist (via video message) and how the Community can contribute now right at the beginning to the development of creative themes. It will also be a place to share news and information about future engagement opportunities.

The project is being managed by Artscape Management and overseen by The Public Art Steering Panel, which is made up of representatives from the community, Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and us.
We’re delivering a 900-home community at Ebbsfleet Green. To date 489 homes have been sold at the bustling new community and the new homes are set alongside already opened shops, including a co-op store, pub, and hotel. A new primary school is opening this summer and in the coming years a community centre and further commercial space will open. As the name suggests, Ebbsfleet Green is landscaped to create plenty of green spaces, with over 40% of the development designated as parkland or open spaces, including play areas, allotments and sports pitches.
