Redrow teams raise over £5000 for charity regatta
Redrow entered three teams into the charity regatta, two male teams and one all female team. None of the members of the all female team had rowed before but, after extensive training with Wales cap Huw Lewis, they made it to the final of the competition.
Kate Lacey, Area Sales Manager for Redrow Homes South Wales and participant in the Splash and Dash regatta, said: “The regatta was fantastic fun and a great experience for everyone who took part. This was definitely a challenge; in the run-up to the event our team trained three times a week for five weeks, none of us had ever rowed before but we all fell in love with it!
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work that went into training pay off and we’re delighted to have raised so much money for two very worthwhile causes.”
Velindre Cancer Care is a specialist cancer treatment centre located on the perimeter of Cardiff. They provide services to over 1.5 million people across South East Wales and beyond. Each year they treat over 5,000 new referrals and around 50,000 new outpatients with a dedicated staff of over 670.
Lisa Williams, Director of Operations at Velindre Cancer Centre, said: “We are delighted that Redrow supported the Splash and Dash Regatta. The Redrow crews raised a fantastic amount of money, which was then matched by the company, which will go towards funding a series of children’s books developed by Velindre to help support patients with a cancer diagnosis in talking to their children about cancer and its treatment. In particular, it will enable us to provide them for free to those who need them. We cannot thank Redrow and its staff enough for their support and fundraising. The provision of these books will leave a lasting legacy to all those who have helped us fund them.”
Keep Wales Tidy is a charity working across Wales to protect our environment for now and for the future. They take action to make a positive difference through practical action, environmental education, training, business services and environmental solutions across Wales.
Louise Tambini, Operations Director for Keep Wales Tidy, said: “This year’s Splash and Dash regatta was a great example of people coming together to try a new sport, get fit, meet new people, have fun and raise money for two important charities. The rowers trained hard and raised a staggering amount of money, which Redrow then matched – a real team effort!
“I commend the dedication and commitment of all who helped make the regatta such a success. Keep Wales Tidy relies on fundraising activities to continue its important work to improve the wellbeing of Wales for future generations, and working in partnership with companies like Redrow is so important if we want to make lasting improvements.”
