The new season of the Netflix series ‘Sex Education’ is due to start filming at the former University of South Wales Caerleon campus which is now being developed by Redrow.

Series three of the popular teen drama will begin filming at the site in October as work begins to convert the campus.

The former Caerleon campus will provide a new high-quality residential community with a landscape-led approach to bring together the historic and landscape character of the site. The current proposals aim to protect and enhance the heritage of the Edwardian main building, its lodges and historic gate piers.

The new site proposes 218 new one, two, three and four-bed homes comprising of 169 new build houses and the remaining 48 new homes provided via conversions of retained buildings.

The architectural character of the site will be kept consistent, with the focus on the listed buildings on site. The new homes will complement the heritage of the listed buildings and respect the high-quality landscape setting in which the site sits.

Wayne Rees, our land director, said; “We have been in close communication each week with the production company as they prepare to start filming at the site. We are excited to be able to provide filming space for the hugely popular series whilst still progressing with the planned development works.

“It has been great to be able to work so closely with the crew over the last few months to make sure that they can continue to use the space which provides a great backdrop to the series.”

Whilst the plans include demolition of the modern teaching and residential blocks, as well as the sports hall and other former student facilities, none of the listed buildings will be affected. Instead significant repair and sympathetic conversion will be undertaken of the historical buildings.

We aims to begin construction on the site at the start of 2021.
