Our South West team has sponsored the ladies’ team of Weston-super-Mare Hockey Club, helping them to continue to train during the pandemic.
Weston-super-Mare Hockey Club was formed in 1905 and, apart from small gaps during the two world wars, has submitted a team to the National Leagues in every year since.
The club currently includes two ladies’ teams and one men’s team in the National League Pyramid. They also have a thriving youth set up, which after the success of the national teams in the Olympics, has seen a renewed interest in children playing hockey.
Despite this. the ongoing pandemic has caused major disruption at all levels of the sport, with grass roots especially suffering.
Whilst team sports will have to pause their return to training under the new restrictions, our sponsorship has helped the club remain operational throughout the pandemic and allowed the club to put extra safety measures in place. The funds have enabled the club to purchase specialist safety face masks and equipment that players need to wear during a penalty corner, as well as for purchasing additional kits so players didn’t have to share ensuring everyone was safe and kit was disinfected properly.
Weston-super-Mare Hockey Club will also look to use some of the sponsorship to provide training equipment for young players looking to take up the sport, so they are not faced with such an expensive outlay of kit when they first try the game.
