Redrow acquires site in Barnham from West Sussex County Council
• Land acquired in Barnham, West Sussex, from West Sussex County Council
• 95 homes have been consented with a gross development value in excess of £35million
• Site represents wider expansion across West Sussex with seven currently active or forthcoming developments
Our Southern Counties division has acquired a nine-acre parcel of land in the village of Barnham, West Sussex. The land has been acquired from West Sussex County Council (WSCC) with a detailed planning consent for 95 homes.
Following the acquisition from WSCC, we will deliver the new homes and community investment. The plans will see the parcel of land transformed into Windmill Views, a selection of beautifully designed two to four-bedroom family homes from our award-winning Heritage Collection. Around one third (30%) of the homes provided will be affordable, with tenure split between shared ownership and affordable rent.
The new community will be located adjacent to Murrells Field and the Barnham Community Hall and is a five-minute walk from Barnham railway station, in the centre of the village. Windmill Views’ residents will fully benefit from the village’s connectivity, with trains to Chichester taking just seven minutes and direct trains to London Victoria in under one hour and 30 minutes.
This is the second site our Southern Counties division has acquired in Barnham, having built and sold all homes at its popular Ashdown Vale development to the north of the village. The acquisition is another step in the division’s expansion and delivery of much-needed new homes across West Sussex, following the acquisition of two sites in Chichester - a 15.5-acre site in March 2019, and a 22-acre site in January 2020.
We are also working with Wates to submit proposals for the re-development of the high-profile Ford Airfield in Arun District. Residents voted overwhelmingly in favour of a plan to build 1,500 homes, with community infrastructure, in November 2018. We are making a series of applications to Arun District over the coming weeks and months to amend the existing layout and house types and is actively engaging with Arun District Council and Barnham and Eastergate Parish Council in the process.
Jon Regent, land director at our Southern Counties division, comments: “We are thrilled to have acquired this longstanding site from West Sussex County Council. It marks our second venture in Barnham, a thriving community with classic country charm yet excellent transport links to cities such as Chichester and London.
“We are looking to commence building before May 2020 and are actively engaging with the District and Parish Councils throughout the entire process.
“West Sussex represents a key growth area for Redrow in 2020, with a total of seven active and forthcoming sites across the region.”
