Redrow announces Hedgehog Highways at Glenwood Park for #HedgehogWeek
To coincide with Hedgehog Awareness Week (30th April-6th May) Redrow West Country are announcing their support for hedgehogs with plans for a Hedgehog Highways scheme at phase two of their popular Barnstaple new homes development, Glenwood Park.
Small, square marked holes are being built into the new garden fences in phase two of Redrow’s Glenwood Park development, at Glenwood Farm. The Hedgehog Highway concept was developed by People’s Trust for Endangered Species and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society as a simple way of making gardens hedgehog-friendly. The small hole will allow hedgehogs to move freely between gardens while they forage for food.
Hedgehog Awareness Week is organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and aims to highlight the problems hedgehogs face and how you can help them. Since 2000, it is estimated that between a third to a half of all hedgehogs have disappeared from Britain with impermeable fences being criticised as one of the main reasons for the decline. The British Hedgehog Preservation Society recommends there should be a 13cm x 13cm gap in boundary fences and walls. Redrow’s introduction of the Hedgehog Highways scheme at Glenwood Park will help ensure hedgehog access to the gardens at the new homes site.
Michele Jones, Area Sales Manager at Glenwood Park, commented: “We are really pleased to be launching the Hedgehog Highways scheme at phase two of our Glenwood Park development. We hope that the scheme will not only encourage hedgehogs, but lots of other types of wildlife to the area.”
Henry Johnson, Hedgehog Officer at People’s Trust for Endangered Species, commented: “Redrow are the first developer in the south-west to consider hedgehogs. With careful planning there is no reason why new residential developments cannot have thriving hedgehog populations and we hope this cheap, easy and attractive feature becomes the norm for all gardens.”
Glenwood Park is a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes. Located at Glenwood Farm, Barnstaple EX31 3GE, the delightful development has excellent road links, schools and lively town nearby. Properties at Glenwood Park are available from £284,000.
