Donation is a breath of fresh air
A donation of £3,000 from the Redrow Foundation has enabled the hospice to install a new air conditioning unit in the kitchen.
Sally Kirkham, catering supervisor for Wakefield Hospice, said: “The new air conditioning unit in the hospice kitchen has made a real difference to working conditions for staff and volunteers.”
Wakefield Hospice is a specialist palliative care unit providing eight single en-suite bedrooms, two four-bed ward areas, a Day Care Unit, bereavement support and education. To continue to operate its services free of charge it must raise £8,767 per day.
Helen Knowles, director of fundraising, added: “We are extremely grateful for the funding provided by Redrow, which has ensured that money raised from our other fundraising initiatives can be spent directly on patient care.”
Located in Aberford Road, Wakefield, the hospice is just a short journey away from Redrow’s divisional headquarters, its Scholars Gate development in Ruskin Avenue and the soon to launch Sandringham Gardens venture.
Ross Walton, construction director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), commented: “Our business is building new homes and creating communities. We also like to get involved in existing communities in the areas where we build. Wakefield Hospice provides a valuable service to local people and we’re delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.”
The Redrow Foundation is a national charity founded by housebuilder Redrow Homes, which builds new homes across England and Wales. It provides financial support for the relief of poverty and sickness in the UK and, in particular, to provide accommodation and related assistance, including respite care, especially to children, the elderly and those who are sick or infirm.
