It's Back to Nature as Children Learn About Interior Design
Toadstool tables and fairy doors were among the ideas dreamed up by Harrogate children when asked to help design a show home near their school.Pupils, aged 9 and 10, from St Roberts Catholic Primary School on Ainsty Road were given the chance to let their imaginations run wild when asked by housebuilder Redrow to have input into designing a child’s bedroom.
The bedroom is a key feature of the new show home at Devonshire Gardens on Claro Road, just a few minutes’ walk from the school.
Asked to focus their ideas on the theme of ‘nature’ the children came up with some impressive designs, including a tree mural, fairy doors, toadstool tables and bedside lamps ‘disguised’ as owls. When the room was finished, they were invited along to a special event at the show home so they could see the fruits of their labour.
Year 5 teacher Ben Ibbetson said: “The kids really enjoyed their visit. They were so pleased to see the room they had helped design and the whole class felt they saw something of their individual designs in the finished bedroom. It must have been tricky to get all those ideas in there but the room looks great.”
Redrow’s group interior design manager Emma Brindley added: “The design is a combination of all of the children’s ideas put together. They had some great suggestions and we’re really pleased with the finished result.
“The tree mural design was taken directly from one of the children’s drawings, so we framed a few of the pictures that inspired us and have hung them on the walls. We also took another idea of the fairy door and added that to the tree.”
The nature-inspired children’s bedroom is an excellent addition to the Claremont style show home which has been chosen to promote Redrow’s Regent Collection at Devonshire Gardens. The rest of the professionally designed and decorated three-bedroom town house has plenty to inspire would-be owners too. Open now for a sneak preview, it will be officially launched in the New Year.
With designs inspired by Regency-period architecture, Redrow’s striking Regent Collection will make up 82 of the 126 homes planned for Devonshire Gardens. Current availability includes four and five-bedroom town houses with prices from £309,950. Already the development is attracting families, downsizers and aspiring home makers.
The new show home is open daily from 10am to 5.30pm – don’t forget to check out the children’s bedroom while you’re there. Find out about homes available now or in the future at www.redrow.co.uk/devonshire or call 01423 203395.
