Liz and Family's New Home is 'Wheelie' Good
Liz, 44, a communications manager for Lloyds Banking Group, who helped raise £305,000 for this year’s Children in Need, was banking on a smooth journey from her old three-bedroom house in nearby Clifford - and that’s exactly what she got.
“We moved in about three weeks after legal completion,” says Liz. “And we absolutely love it. There are still a few boxes to unpack and curtains to hang but we are so settled in our home; it’s just wonderful. The children have already said they never want to move again!”
Now busy making the finishing touches that turn a house into a home, it’s still a welcome rest for Liz who was one of 60 bank colleagues who cycled more than 300 miles over three-and-a -half days from the Tower of London to Pudsey in West Yorkshire.
“I’m not a keen cyclist – or I wasn’t,” smiles Liz, “but I’ve got the bug now for bike riding and fund-raising. The bike ride for Children in Need was a massive thing for me and a chance to get fit after a shoulder op, but the money raised – Redrow even donated £100 for a race night I organised - was worth all the effort.”
Liz moved to The Rectory at Southbank with milkman husband Bryn, 45, and children Millie, 11, and Jack, nine. She explains: “We wanted a bigger house but we didn’t want to move out of the area.
“Millie was due to start school in the September and we were previously outside the catchment area for Tadcaster Grammar. Fortunately she got in anyway, but the school bus comes into Redrow’s development, which we didn’t know at the time so it’s handy and like it was meant to be.
“That aside, we loved the place when we came to visit, it is countryside living yet only a minute or two from Boston Spa. We chose the four-bedroom Sunningdale, which has a kitchen/dining area, a separate lounge and a separate snug – the latter of which has become the kids room where they can play all their games and we can close the door on all the noise.”
Liz continues: “Now we can’t wait to spend Christmas in our new home. The kids have both said they want a tree in their bedrooms! Well, maybe a little one...”
There are fewer than 10 properties remaining at The Rectory, which has a collection of beautiful stone built, four-bedroom detached properties in a picture-postcard location.
Among the popular Heritage Collection homes is the Harrogate, priced from £459,950, with an open plan dining and family area, separate lounge and four large bedrooms, including master with en-suite. The luxurious detached Henley like the show home, has two en-suite bathrooms and a 36 feet long kitchen, dining and family room, and is available from £524,950.
All of the remaining homes can be purchased with the government-backed Help to Buy scheme which can reduce the initial outlay by 20% with an equity loan that’s interest free for five years. This means the homes can be bought with a 5% deposit and 75% mortgage from a lender of choice.
