Nature is heartbeat of West Yorkshire developments

23rd May 2022
Redrow - A Better Way to Live - Nature for People - Street Scene

Our commitment to delivering biodiverse communities that support people’s wellbeing is evident at two West Yorkshire developments.

Langley Grange in Scissett and the now completed Stoney Bank Chase in Thongsbridge are prime examples of how we’re tackling biodiversity.

With benefits of living close to wildlife and green spaces becoming much more prominent post-lockdown, Yorkshire sales director Steve Jackson believes the popularity of the two developments has partly been down to what has been nurtured around the homes.

Steve said: “I think today, buyers don’t just look at the homes themselves, they look at what surrounds the properties and so green space is incredibly important. In a survey we carried out to find out buyer priorities post-lockdown, 43% of those surveyed in Yorkshire said that living close to green space was a priority.”

At Langley Grange residents can explore five newt ponds, meadow habitats and keep their eye on the local bird and bat inhabitants with boxes that are scattered around the development.  We’ve also built in great crested newt underpasses under each hedgerow to allow them easy traveling.

At Stoney Bank Chase there is a woodland area with native trees and a newly created wildflower habitat, with public open space making up a fifth of the site.

Steve continues: “Redrow designs developments with nature in mind, keeping existing trees, hedges and ponds where possible and creating new wildlife habitats as well as planting new trees.

“Our developments encourage access to nature rich spaces and Langley Grange and Stoney Bank Chase are great examples of where this has been done successfully.”

Our aim is to leave a legacy behind so all spaces continue to thrive in the future. Our approach to delivering biodiverse communities was developed in partnership with The Wildlife Trusts.
